Cold Weather Returned

A cold front with strong winds was forecast to come through sometime Sunday, but the morning was pleasant enough for our usual walk.  We followed our normal routine of church followed by lunch at the clubhouse and, since the weather was still holding, played a round of golf with Tootie and Roger.  After a little rest, John went back out to play a few more holes and as he was getting started the winds really picked up and the temps began to drop. In the evening we headed back to the RV park for the Sunday Night Movie.

The cold, miserable weather continued into Monday so all outside activities were canceled.  John did go to wood carvers in the morning and then spent his afternoon over at Sam Lark's working on some stairs to their storage area.  I got a new Kindle Tablet and have been busy getting it set up with email, etc.  Following supper, we headed to the service club building to see a travel log of the Miner's trip to Austria and Croatia.

Today was still on the cold side, so the ladies' golf was canceled.  John went out and played some this afternoon, but he did it alone as Paul and John wimped out (along with me).
This evening was potluck at the RV park followed by cards.  John lost both of his games, but I came away a winner.

Beautiful Weather Continues

Friday was a full day for us.  It started out with our walk around the golf course and then following breakfast John headed over to Sam Lark's to do some work on a closet  After lunch we played a round of golf and got home just in time to get cleaned up and head over to the RV park for the anual Stone Soup meal.  I ended my day meeting  up with the ladies for Bingo while John watched some college basketball.

This morning it was back to the RV park for the Saturday morning breakfast and then I headed into town to get a haircut and pick up the mail.  By now the temps were on the rise, so it was tee shirts and shorts for playing golf.  John B., Paul, John and I only played nine holes before calling it quits for lunch.  Our friend Ralph R. turned 92 this week and wanted to be able to say he golfed at that age.  John and Paul played nine holes with Ralph this afternoon.

Raph and Paul

Late this afternoon we Skyped with Amy and then went over to Rodger and Tootie's for some homemade ice cream made by Gene B.  We had a fun evening sitting around the fire and visiting.

A Little Break In The Action

Wednesday was clear but still a little on the cooler side.  Following our morning walk John headed off to men's golf where his team tied for first place.  When the guys finished, Paul E. came to pick me up so I could play the back nine with John and a couple of others.  Even though it was sunny, the wind was pretty stiff and by the time we finished, I had a sore throat and earache that lasted overnight.  I think allergies are causing the problem as I just finished an antibiotic on Monday and was told it would stay in my system for a week longer.

We decided to skip couples' golf today and went to Del Rio for breakfast at McDonald's and some shopping.  We picked up some groceries at Wal Mart, washed and gassed up the car, and made a final stop at SAS Factory Outlet Store for a few pairs of socks.  After lunch John played a round of golf with Paul while I just vegged out at home.  My sore throat comes and goes, so I'll just have to see what happens over the next couple of days.

Cold Morning Turned Into NiceDay

This morning was a little on the chilly side when we took our walk, so we  bundled up in heavy sweatshirts and moved at a brisk pace.  Most of the folks John and I golf with on Tuesday mornings went on a tour of the Port of Entry in Del Rio, so there was no golfing for us.  John took a quick trip into town to get the mail and stopped over at Wallace's to do some cutting on his next carving project.  While he was gone, I took care of some finances on the the computer.

I was originally scheduled to get a haircut today, but my appointment got postponed until Saturday morning.  Since the weather cleared and it turned into a pretty nice afternoon, John and I decided to play the back nine of the course.  For the first time ever I birdied a hole.  After that, my game rather fell apart, but at least I had one bright shining moment.

This evening was potluck at the RV park and cards.  John won his first game and lost the second.  My table had a long first game, so I only played one tonight but made it to the final three people left.

Cold Weather Returns

This morning we were up bright and early for our morning walk as John had to be at wood carvers by 9 a.m.  The sky was overcast and the temperature was 59 degrees.  We were only back home a little while when the winds came up and the thermometer read 47 degrees.  The cold front in the forecast had arrived and hung around all day.

While John was carving, I changed the bed linens and did some work on the computer.  Following lunch, John headed back over to the RV park to help out with a workday.  Quite a few folks showed up to replace a couple of picnic table tops, paint, and do some general cleaning up.  I spent a couple of hours with Melinda E. on her computer helping her with a birthday project for her grandson.

The remainder of our afternoon was spent inside keeping warm and watching some recorded shows.  It was just too chilly for outside acitivites.

Good Valentine's Weekend

Our weekend weather was very pleasant and made it enjoyable to be doing outside activities.  Saturday morning we followed our usual routine of breakfast at the RV park and then a walk around the golf course.  Since we had been busy everyday last week, I had gotten behind on the household chores so I decided to skip golf and get caught up on the laundry and cleaning.  John played a round of golf with Wisconsin Jim, John B. and Paul.  To celebrate the holiday, we met up with 15 others for a wonderful meal at the clubhouse.  Good food and a good time was had by all.

Today our temps were a little cooler, but it was still a beautiful day to be outside.  Following the church service, our usual crowd ate lunch at the clubhouse and then we played a round of golf with Rodger and Tootie.  We returned home to rest up a little and then headed back to the RV park for the Sunday night movie.  And so another busy week begins.

A Beutiful Friday

As John and I were taking our morning walk around the golf course we noticed that the fairways are beginning to green up and some of the trees are budding out.  We also hear more birds singing, so Spring is definitely on the way here in south Texas.

Following breakfast we got cleaned up and headed, once again, back to Uvalde for their Winter Texan luncheon.  We were served a delicious chili soup and desserts while being entertained with live music.  Since it was such a beautiful afternoon we played a few holes of golf with Paul.  None of us played very well, but at least we got some exercise.  This evening I met up with Darlene, Lois, and Jeanne for some Bingo--none of us were winners tonight.

A Very Busy Week

Our beautiful weather has stayed around and everyone has enjoyed being outside.  Sunday following church, we ate lunch at the clubhouse with our usual crowd and then played nine holes of golf with Rodger and Tootie.  This was followed by homemade ice cream and cupcakes at their place.

 Everyone enjoying the warm afternoon

Monday John went to wood carvers and then helped Sam L. with his garage door.  In the afternoon we headed over to the RV park for Washers and in the evening attended a video presentation where Everett Endris shared his experience as a Korean prisoner of war. He was held over three years and suffered great hardships. It was a very moving evening and gave each of us a greater appreciation for the men and women who serve in our country's military.

Tuesday I golfed with Linda and Tootie while John played a foursome with Jim, Paul, and Rodger.  For supper we headed back to the RV park for potluck and cards.  I have been feeling a little under the weather due to allergies, so yesterday John and I went to the Urgent Care clinic in Uvalde.  The doctor thought I might be headed for bronchitis and put me on some steroid pills and an antibiotic.  We stopped for lunch at Wendy's while waiting for the prescriptions to be filled and did a little shopping at Wal Mart.  I took a nap in the afternoon while John played a round of golf.  The weather has just been too nice to stay inside.

A trip to the Uvalde golf course for a round of golf has been in the works for several weeks and today 13 of us headed out bright and early for a tee time of 10 a.m.  Even though the weather was forecast to be cloudy and cool, we had a beautiful day and a very enjoyable time.  Afterward, some of us headed to the Oasis for a late lunch.  This evening John went to wood carvers while I watched several recorded shows.

At Last, Some Sunshine

Friday was once again cold and cloudy-- the warmer weather in the forecast never showed up.  We took our usual morning walk and then John headed off to town to do some errands and then spent some time checking up on a few friends that have been under the weather.  He tried to talk me into playing golf in the afternoon  but I decided to wait for nicer weather and sent him off to play with John B. and Paul.

This morning we went over to the RV park for breakfast before taking a walk around the golf course.  The remainder of our morning was spent Skyping Matt and then Amy.  This afternoon we played in the RV Fun Par Three Golf Tournament.  There were seven teams and we played with some unusual rules.  Everyone on each team got a mulligan that could be used at any time.  A piece of string was also given to each team and we could use any portion of the string to move the ball into the hole.  The best rule was we could toss the ball into the hole one time.  Team captins were selected and then the rest of us drew cards to see which team we would be on.  I played with John, John B. and Diana.   Our team ended up three under par by using some good strategy and that was the winning score.  Following supper we ended up our day playing cards with Chuck and Lois.

Cold and Cloudy Couple of Days

The cold weather from Tuesday continued into Wednesday, but that didn't keep eight men from showing up bright and early to play nine holes of golf.  While John spent the morning on the golf course, I took care of a few chores around the house.  The remainder of the day we stayed holed up inside watching some recorded TV shows and reading.

Today will hopefully be our last cold one for a while--warmer weather is in the forecast.  Today was couples' golf, but we only had four teams as most folks opted out of playing due to the cold.  John and I played with Pat and Bob--this is the first time we played together and even though we all did rather poorly, we had a good time.  Playing in cold weather causes my back to stiffen and makes it hard to get a good swing going.  John headed off to wood carvers this evening.  He's putting the finishing touches on his latest project and will soon be ready to paint it.

Cold and Rainy Day

It was raining pretty steadily when we got up this morning so our usual walk was canceled along with golf.  Ralph R. stopped over and we spent a good portion of our morning visiting with him.

Since we couldn't get outside to do anything, we decided to take a quick trip to Del Rio for lunch and to do a little grocery shopping at Wal Mart.  John wants to put a metal tile backing behind our gas fireplace, so we stopped at Home Depot to see what our options are for such a project.  We got a couple of ideas and will have to do a little more research before beginning the project.

This evening was potluck at the RV park.  Numbers were down a little due to folks being sick, but we still had a delicious meal and had three tables of card players.  John and I were both winners tonight.  Hopefully this rainy weather will move out tomorrow so we can get back out on the golf course.

Catching Up

We have been keeping pretty busy with all of the activities here on the fort.  Our weekly schedule is pretty much the same with wood carving, potlucks, and golfing.  On Friday a group of us went on a little adventure to Uvalde where we toured the First State Bank.  This bank has many beautiful works of art hanging on the walls along with antique furntire displayed around the bank.  We ended the adventure with lunch at a Mexican restuarant.

On Saturday John went with a group of folks to Kickapoo State Park where they hiked in a cave.  Even though the weather was rainy and cool, the cave was nice and warm.  I opted out of this trip as I didn't feel my foot was ready for walking over rocks.

Sunday was a beautiful day and following church we went for lunch with several friends and then played a quick nine holes of golf.  In the evening we hosted our fourth annual Super Bowl party.  Everyone left happy as they were all rooting for New England.  It was one of the best Super Bowl games ever.

The cold weather returned today, but we still managed to play washers this afternoon.  The forecast is for cold with showers tomorrow, so the ladies I golf with decided not to play tomorrow.  Hopefully, this cold weather will move out soon.
