The weather continued cold, windy, and generally miserable again today, so as I mentioned in yesterday's blog, John and I decided to get out of town for the day. We left home a little after nine and an hour and a half later made our first stop at Cabela's in Grand Forks. We spent an hour or so looking through the store and ended up with two new pairs of shorts for John and a new rain jacket for me and, best of all, everything was on sale.
When we pulled into the parking lot at Cabela's, we saw a city crew removing the upper dike boards from the top of the dike. The flood level didn't reach the forecast crest due to the slow melt in the area, so they were removing the extra tier of the dike as the threat of flooding is now over. Since the big flood of '97, Grand Forks redid their entire dike system and removed all the homes in the flood plain. The river is up quite a bit, but there is still a lot of room before the dikes would be breached.
After crossing the Red River into North Dakota, we headed to Culver's for some lunch, and then hit the mall and Sam's Club for more shopping. John found some new jeans and the both of us found some shoes which were on sale to make way for the new summer fashions.
We made one final stop at DQ for some ice cream to finish off our day out with a delicious treat. The remainder of the everning was spent relaxing and watching some TV.
We have started this blog to keep family and friends updated with news and photos about our lives in both Minnesota and Texas. We hope you will check in often and enjoy sharing our experiences.
