A Day In Salt Lake City

John and I were up nice and early this morning, enjoyed a great breakfast at the motel, and then hit the road for Antelope Island State Park.  Thanks to good directions from the front desk clerk, we were at the park gates in about 20 minutes.  Antelope Island is the largest island in the Great Salt Lake and has its own herd of buffalo and is a major nesting place for many different species of birds.  We stopped at the visitors' center and then drove down the east side of the island where we saw quite a bit of wildlife.  The day was nice and warm with hazy skies, so the mountains were hard to see.

We left the state park around noon and stopped at a Subway for some lunch.  John and I were both a little tired of hamburgers and decided to skip them for today.  From there we drove into downtown Salt Lake City and visited Mormon Square with the Mormon Temple, visitor centers, and many gardens with beautiful flowers.  Next we made a stop at the Capitol building and walked through on a self-guided tour.  By now we were both pretty hot and tired, so we called it a day and went back to the motel where we enjoyed some time in the hot tub and pool before going to supper at Cracker Barrel.  Tomorrow we head out again for California.
