It was warm enough this morning that both John and I could wear shorts for our walk.  We had a beautiful warm, sunny day here in Texas.  Spring has definitely arrived--the Mountain Laurel is blooming and the trees are really beginning to bud.  Today we talked to a lady who said the hummingbirds are back.  They stop here for awhile before continuing their northward journey.

After breakfast, John went down to the clubhouse for the men's nine hole scramble.  There was a large turnout and John played with a couple of golfers he hadn't played with before.  His team ended up two over par.  When he returned home, he worked on the mirror frame he is making for Sam.  The frame is finished; however, help will be needed to lift the mirror into the frame and anchor it.

I went to Del Rio late this morning for my Weight Watchers meeting.  Following that, I stopped for some lunch, gassed up the Honda, and made a quick stop at Wal Mart for a few grocery items.  My final stop was Gold Star, an exterminating service, to make an appointment for our yearly inspection and also to make an appointment for them to come out Friday and take a look at our ant problem.  Cutter ants keep building nests near our foundation and we would like to get rid of them permanently.  Hopefully Gold Star will be able to treat the ground around the house.

John and I played a round of golf after I got home--not the best I've ever done.  Right now I'm having a hard time connecting with the ball and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

We spent the evening watching Survivor and a few other favorites before calling it a night.

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

The rain and mist continued overnight and into this morning, so we skipped our usual walk and slept in a little later.  It also meant that ladies' golf was canceled.

After breakfast, John headed back over to Sam and Leta's to install a couple more ceiling fans.  He has one more left to put up.  While he was gone this morning, I made a pasta salad for the RV potluck this evening.  The mist continued into this afternoon, so golf was out.  I decided it was a good time to work on the finances and get everything up-to-date.  John went over to Wallace's where just about all the carvers had gathered to put a sealer on their different projects.

This evening the numbers were down a little for the potluck--some folks are traveling and others are dealing with colds.  However, we still had plenty of good food to eat.  After the meal, we played "31"--I made it to the final hand in both my games and lost.  John better--he won his second one.  We got home a little earlier this evening and were able to watch the end of American Idol and a few other shows we usually miss on Tuesday evenings.

Monday, February 27, 2012

Even though it was cloudy and slightly misting this morning, we were able to take our usual walk.  In fact, the clouds hung around all day and we even had a pretty good rain shower a little after noon.

Tim picked up John after breakfast and they headed off to wood carvers.  I had a nice pork loin in the freezer and since today was a good one to have the oven on for a couple of hours, I decided to have it for lunch  along with mashed potatoes and peas.  Ralph Ramsey stopped in for a visit just as we were ready to sit down and eat.  We invited him to lunch, but he said he wasn't ready to eat as he had a late breakfast.  He passed up a very good meal.

This afternoon John headed over to Sam and Leta's to install one of their new ceiling fans.  He still has two more to do before the job is completed.  This morning while he was at carving, he made a deal with Chuck E. to buy his table saw, so after he left Sam's, he stopped to visit with Wallace and then went down the street to Chuck's and asked him if this afternoon was a good time to bring the saw over to our place.  Rodger happened to be walking by, so the guys grabbed him to give them a hand.  We now have a table saw in our shed.

Mary Ellen called and asked if we would like to play some cards this evening, so it was off to their condo after supper.  We played a couple of games of "Hand & Foot" with the guys finally winning one of them.  They had been on a long losing streak.  As we left the condos, we saw that it had been raining most of the evening.  Not sure if golf is on for tomorrow--may be too muddy on the course.

Sunday, February 26, 2012

Today was pretty low key.  We were up a little earlier for our morning walk so we could be on time for Sunday School.  Before we left for church John called Rodger to set up a time for some golf this afternoon.  We decided on a tee time of 2:30.

After John and I got home, we ate lunch and then watched an old movie on TV before heading down to the clubhouse to meet up with Tudi and Rodger.  The winds were still very strong this afternoon, so driving the ball was a challenge at times.  As usual, we all had a good time and made tentative plans to play again on Thursday.  John and I played a few more holes of golf on our way back to the house and both were pretty tired by the time we finished.

Since neither of us felt like cooking anything for supper, John volunteered to go to Subway and pick up a sub for us to share.  We spent the remainder of the evening relaxing and watching The Amazing Race and a few other shows on TV.

Saturday, February 25, 2012

Even though today was sunny, strong winds kept it on the cool side.  We were back to wearing winter hats and several layers for our morning walk.

After breakfast, we got cleaned up and headed off to Del Rio for the Winter Texan Appreciation luncheon held at the convention center.  Some of the local businesses and organizations had booths set up so one could see what is available in the Del Rio area.  We were served a delicious lunch and enjoyed a country western singing group.  The Chamber of Commerce also gave away some very nice door prizes, but our Fort Clark group didn't win anything this year.

John and I then went to Wal Mart where we looked for a new air conditioner cover.  The strong winds of the other night ripped our's to shreds, so it needs to be replaced.  We couldn't find anything to do with air conditioning in the store--I think it's just too early--so I decided to look online and see if I can find a cover.

Our plan was to play a round of golf this afternoon after we got home.  Today was the end of month scramble and the players didn't get off the course until late in the day.  John and I decided to skip the golf for today and plan on playing tomorrow.  Hopefully the winds will die down and the temps will be a little warmer by then.

Friday, February 24, 2012

A cold front came through overnight with very strong winds making today about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday.  When we checked around the outside of the house this morning, we saw quite a few branches lying on the ground and our wooden Adirondack chair flipped over and off the deck.

Our original plan for this morning was to play a round of golf.  However, it was pretty chilly, so we decided to wait and play after lunch when it warmed up a little.  John spent some time working on the mirror frame he's making for Sam Lark while I took care of some household chores.  After lunch, John dropped me off at the library while he went to get a haircut.  I had a couple of books I needed to return and wanted to check out a something new to read.  We made a quick stop at the post office before returning home and then headed off to the clubhouse.  I don't know if it was the cooler temps that kept the golfers at home, but there was only one other player on the course with us.

We were just finishing up our golf game when Tudi called and asked if I wanted to go to Bingo this evening with her and Nancy.  I had about an hour before they would pick me up, so John and I finished up the hole we were playing and headed on home.  Even though we didn't win this evening, we had a good time.  John spent a relaxing evening watching a couple of his favorite Friday night TV shows.

Thursday, February 23, 2012

It felt like summer today with the temps reaching the upper 80's--a perfect day for golf.  John, Rodger, Gene, Richard, Tim, and Lloyd piled into Richard's van and headed off to Uvalde after breakfast to play golf on the course over there.  They stopped for a quick bite to eat at McDonald's and then headed to the course.  John said that course was more difficult than the one here on the fort with water hazards and much deeper rough.  They divided into two teams of three with John, Rodger, and Gene playing together--they won their mini tournament.  The guys stopped for some supper before heading back to the fort.

Rodger, Gene, John (the winners) Richard, Tim and Lloyd

I took advantage of John being gone all day to get caught up around the house.  The laundry had piled up and there were a few stacks of stuff that needed attention.  I got all the laundry done, bed linens changed, and the stacks sorted and put away.  Now I'm free to do as I please for a few days.

John went to wood carvers this evening after he got home and I watched American Idol.  All my favorites are moving on--should be a good season.

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

We had another beautiful day here in Texas.  This morning was John's turn to head off to the clubhouse to meet up with some fellows for their Wednesday morning nine-hole scramble.  John's team of three ended up with a final score of one under par.  After their game, some of the players, including John, headed down to Burger and Shake for lunch.

Around mid-morning I headed off to Del Rio and my Weight Watchers meeting.  Following that, I stopped for a quick lunch, gassed up the Honda (gas was 10 cents more a gallon--$3.499-- from last Weds.), and hit Wal Mart for a few groceries.  My final stop on my way out of town was HEB for some fresh produce.  John called and told me Lloyd and Ginny wanted to play a round of golf this afternoon, and if I wasn't home in time to start with them, they would meet me on the third hole.  I only had to wait about 15 minutes for them to come by the house, just enough time to get the refrigerator foods put away and change into my golfing shoes.

This evening we settled in to watch Survivor and a few other shows before calling it a night.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

It was a beautiful day for playing golf and that's what we did. This morning after breakfast I headed down to the club house where I met up with nine other ladies for our Tuesday morning golf outing.  Even though we started at 9:30 the course was pretty busy and I didn't get back home until almost 12:30.

While I was gone, John went over to Sam Lark's place and installed a ceiling fan on their outdoor patio.  Sam has three other ceiling fans he wants replaced inside, but John will get to them another day.  He wanted to play golf this afternoon, so after I rested up a bit, we headed back out to the course.  The weather was just perfect and we couldn't resist being outside.

We got finished golfing in time for me to get home and make a hotdish to take to this evening's potluck meal at the RV park.  As usual, many folks stayed to play "31".  John and I lost both our games, but at least he made it to the final round.

Monday, February 20, 2012

The day started off cloudy but was very pleasant for walking.  By afternoon the clouds moved out and the weather was absolutely beautiful.  We can tell Spring is on its way--the trees are starting to bud and we can hear more birds singing in the morning.

It's Monday, so that means wood carvers.  John headed out right after breakfast and when he got done with carving, stopped at Bee and Nancy Stone's place to look at their entertainment center.  They need a new TV and want one of the larger models, but the problem is the size of the opening in their entertainment center.  They were asking John's opinion about making the opening larger.  The Stones were going to talk to one of their neighbors who also has some woodworking experience and then make a final decision about what they want to do.

I spent the morning baking bread and making a dessert for a potluck meal this afternoon.  We meet with five other couples to play a best ball scramble on the federal holidays, thus our group's name--The Holiday Club.  This is the only time the twelve of us play together as a group.  We met up at the clubhouse after lunch and divided into three teams of four.  When the golfing was done, we went over to the Camfields where we all enjoyed a good meal and conversation.  We had such a good time today that the group decided to play together one more time on April 1st, even though it's not a federal holiday, before we all start heading home for the summer.

We spent the remainder of our evening watching The Voice and just relaxing.

Sunday, February 19, 2012

The weather was a cool 40 degrees when we took our walk this morning; however, the sun was shinning and it was rather enjoyable being outside and not dealing with mist or fog.

Our Sunday was pretty low key.  We attended our Sunday morning church service and following lunch, met Rodger and Tudi at the clubhouse for a round of golf.  Since the weather kept the golfers home for the past few days, the course was pretty busy today and it took us a little longer than usual to play the front nine.  John and I returned home, took a little break, and then decided to play a couple of more holes so I  could get a little more practice using my fairway wood.  We are playing a best ball scramble with the "Holiday Club" tomorrow afternoon and I want to be able to use this club.

John and I were both pretty tired this evening, so we spent a quiet night relaxing and watching some TV.

Saturday, February 18, 2012

We had more rain overnight, but it cleared out by morning so we were able to get outside and walk.  The temperatures remained on the cool side with strong winds most of the day, so it was a good one to stay inside.

After breakfast, John went over to Sam Lark's to help him build a desk.  They covered a piece of plywood with leather and used two three-drawer filing cabinets for the base.  John said the project turned out looking pretty nice.  I spent the morning doing a few chores around the house and baking and icing cupcakes.

Since it was way to windy and cool for golf, John and I watched a movie this afternoon, and following supper, we headed over to the RV park where Mary Ellen was doing a presentation entitled Fort Clark Backroads Ruins.  She had spent time last winter photographing and mapping out the fort's ruins and put together a very interesting and informative program.  The cupcakes I made today were for the social time being held after her program.  After helping restore order to the RV kitchen, we returned home and spent the remainder of the evening watching a little TV and working on the computer.  Hopefully the weather will improve so we can get some golf in tomorrow.

Friday, February 17, 2012

We woke to another cloudy, misty morning, but were able to get our walk in without getting too wet.  Actually, the wet weather hung around the entire day, so it was a good one to stay inside.

After breakfast, John gathered up the Indian he had carved and headed over to Wallace's.  Today Becky, Wallace's wife, was helping Jim, Tim, and John with painting the carvings they did during the seminar.  John had spent some time with her last spring learning how to paint wood carvings.  He spent the whole day working on the carving and got it finished.  I think he did an great job on both the carving and painting.

Chief Limp Feather

While John was gone for the day, I thought it would be a good time to clean the house and give the main floor a wet mopping.  That hadn't been done for almost two months, and there were many dust bunnies living under the sofa and recliners.  I also baked a pound cake to have with some of our Minnesota strawberries.  It was a pretty low key day.  The rain is suppose to continue into tomorrow, so it looks like golf is out of the question for a few days.  Bummer!!

Thursday, February 16, 2012

A change in the weather is on its way--today was cloudy, breezy, and a little cooler than yesterday.    John and I took our usual morning walk and after breakfast we headed down to the clubhouse where we met up with Rodger and Tudi for our Thursday golf game.  Following our round of golf, we decided to meet up at Burger and Shake for some lunch.  Nancy and Randy joined us for the meal with Gene and Jeanne stopping in a little later for some coffee.  We ended up visiting for an hour or so before our gabfest broke up.

Since we're suppose to get rain tomorrow, John and I went back out and played just a few more holes of golf.  I have a fairway club that I have never used, so John thought this would be a good time for me to try it out.  I manged to connect with the ball and found I can drive it much farther using this club.  Maybe this will help me improve my game.  Time will tell.

This evening John and Tim went to wood carvers.  We were still having some computer issues, so I contacted the internet repair service and they seem to have corrected the problem.  This evening I watched American Idol--the talent this year is amazing.

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Our beautiful weather continued today.  The temperature was 60 degrees when we left the house this morning for our walk.  It sure felt good to leave the gloves and winter hats at home.

Following breakfast, John headed down to the clubhouse for golf with the men.  He played with a couple of long ball hitters and his group ended up two under par.  John had a little trouble with his drives off the tee, so this afternoon he went to the driving range to get in some practice.

Wednesday is Weight Watchers day, so I was off to Del Rio for a meeting.  I also hit the mall for some new shoes--the pair I had left down here over the summer completely fell apart when I wore them the other day.  Don't know if the heat dried out the rubber sole, but they are beyond repair.  I finally settled on a nice pair I found in JC Penny's.

My next stop was Wal Mart to pick up some CD discs and envelopes for Mary Ellen along with a few grocery items.  The final stop was HEB for some fresh produce.  As I was leaving the store, John called and asked if I wanted to play some golf when I got home.  I told him "Yes" and that I should be back at the fort in about 40 minutes.

We like playing golf late in the day as there are only a few people on the course and you can take your time.  I had a pretty fair round again, but John had a rough start but improved toward the end.

My favorite show "Survivor" starts again this evening, so that's what we'll be watching this evening along with American Idol.

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

I'm a happy camper.  The warm, sunny weather has returned.  The temps were still a little on the chilly side when we took our walk this morning, but the sunshine soon warmed things up.

After breakfast I headed down to the club house to meet the ladies for our Tuesday morning game.  We only had seven women playing today, so we ended up with two teams--one with three players and the other with four.  Even though I hadn't played in almost a week, I had a pretty good round this morning.  In fact, everyone had a pretty good game.

While I was off golfing, John went over to Chuck's to saw some boards for a mirror frame he's making for Sam L.  He also stopped in at Wallace's and then visited with Gerald before heading back home.  Since it was such a beautiful day, after lunch John and I went back out and played another round of golf.  The course was pretty busy after several days of cold, rainy weather when no one could play.

This evening we attended a Valentine's Day dinner.  The service club was beautifully decorated and we were served a delicious meal--it was a fun evening and we really enjoyed ourselves.  Time to call it a day and head off to bed.

Monday, February 13, 2012

After two days of winter-like weather, today was much better with warmer temps and the sun finally breaking through this afternoon.  The morning was cloudy with misting when we took our walk, but after missing yesterday's walk, we needed to get in some exercise today.

Following breakfast, John and Tim went to wood carvers.  I took care of the usual Monday chores--laundry, changing bed linens, and cleaning up after last night's movie party.  This afternoon John went to the post office and then made a quick visit to Ralph Ramsey.  Later on he went back over to Wallace's to do some wood burning on the cardinal he carved.  He plans to start painting his carvings on Friday.

Mary Ellen stopped over this afternoon to let us know about the program she will be presenting about the ruins of Fort Clark and to ask me to pick up a few things for her from Del Rio.  I was looking up something on the computer while she was here and noticed it wasn't running right.  I went back to the computer repair internet site I used before and spent a few hours getting the computer worked on and now it is running great again.

We spent the evening watching some college basketball, working on the computer and reading.  It was a pretty low key day today.

Sunday, February 12, 2012

This morning when we got up and looked outside we thought we were  back in Minnesota--it was sleeting with a temperature of 35 degrees.  Of course, our morning walk was canceled.

We ate breakfast, got cleaned up, and headed off to church where the big topic of conversation was the cold weather.  Following the service, we attended the potluck meal and then returned home.

Mary Ellen stopped in this afternoon and asked if we would host a movie night this evening since the weather was so lousy and everyone was tired of being inside all day plus we were also the only ones with a big TV and room enough for ten or so folks.  So at 6:30 p.m. five couples came to our place with their chairs and snacks to watch a Charlton Heston movie from 1953 that was filmed completely at Fort Clark.  It was fun to see what the fort looked like almost 60 years ago.  Once the movie was done, we sat around visiting for a while before everyone called it a night.  We decided to have another movie night and put Lloyd in charge of picking out the next movie.

It was coming on 10 p.m. by the time everyone left and so we decided to call it a day and head for bed.  The temperature never got above 36 degrees today, but warmer weather (highs in the 70's) is on tap by Tuesday.  I, for one, will be glad to see some sunny, warm weather again.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

Today was another busy one for us.  We took our morning walk and then after breakfast, got cleaned up, and headed off to Uvalde to attend the Winter Texan Appreciation luncheon.  John and I arrived a few minutes before the doors opened and met up with several other Fort Clark friends.   Following the lunch, we all walked next door to the Uvalde Opera House where we were treated to a mini concert by two country singers.

After the concert we went to Wal Mart to pick up some milk and a few other items we missed the other day.  John felt the need for some ice cream, so on the way out of town we stopped at McDonald's so he could have one of their hot fudge sundaes.

We were only home about half an hour when we had to get down to the Adult Center for the Poker Run.  When you sign in, you get a sheet of paper with five stops listed on it.  Most folks travel to each stop via golf cart, and once there, you draw a card and it gets stapled to your sheet.  Once you have hit all the stops, you return to the starting place, hand in your sheet, and the winning hands are determined.  John didn't have anything in his hand--I managed to get a pair of Aces.   A meal of hotdogs, chips, and a drink was served after the run.

Before heading back home, we made a stop at the RV park with Lloyd and Ginny so John could get a look at the ceiling in the kitchen area that needs some sound proofing.  Lloyd wanted to see if John had any ideas on the best way to do the job.

Tomorrow is potluck after church, so when we got home I made a quick dessert to take tomorrow.  The remainder of the evening we watch "Sleepless in Seattle" and some college basketball before calling it a day.

Friday, February 10, 2012

We didn't have time for a walk this morning as we had to be at the Service Club parking lot by 8:45 a.m. to meet up with a group of about 20 going to D'hanis to tour the Brick and Tile Company operating there.

We rode along with Ginny and Lloyd and arrived right on time for the tour.  There was only one problem, the plant manager forgot about having us and arrived over an hour late.

We learned that this brick company has been in operation over 100 years and is still shipping bricks all over the United States and to Canada and South America.  The workers were on lunch break during the tour, so we didn't get a chance to see the machinery in operation; however, we did see the piles of raw clay and the manager walked us through the plant and the process of making bricks.  When we were finished the tour, everyone had the opportunity to take a D'hanis brick.

Waiting for the tour to start

Once the brick company tour was completed, we drove a couple of blocks to Bill and Rosa's Steak House for lunch.  Mary Ellen had told them a large party would be coming in around noon, but we showed up an hour late.  Our table was still waiting for us and the staff was very gracious in serving us quickly.  The food was excellent and all seemed to enjoy their meals.

From the steak house, we drove about a mile out of town and visited the Old D'hanis church ruins and cemetery.  This church had been built well over 100 years ago and the cemetery also had headstones from that period.  A couple of the stones mentioned that the person had been killed by Indians.

Modern stone placed by family's descendents

When we were done exploring the church grounds and cemetery, we all headed back to Bracketville.  We finished off the adventure with some ice cream at Picos.

The day, which started off cloudy and misty, turned sunny and a little warmer, so John and I headed off to the golf course and played a few holes before calling it a day.  Tomorrow morning we head back to Uvalde for the Winter Texan appreciation event.

Thursday, February 9, 2012

The cool and gloomy weather made for a rather quiet day here on the fort.  While taking our morning walk, we saw only one other person who was out walking their dog.

John wanted to play golf this morning, but I chickened out.  The temp was only 47 degrees and no sunshine--much to chilly for me.  He bundled up and played a round by himself.  When he got back he said he only saw one other golfer out on the course.  While he was gone, I took some time to work on finances and get them up to date.

After lunch, John went to the driving range to work on his swing.  I headed into town for a haircut and then stopped at the library to return a couple of books and pick up some new ones to read.

This evening John picked up Tim and they headed off to wood carvers.  I spent a quiet evening watching American Idol and working on the computer.  Like I said, it was a pretty quiet day.

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

We didn't have anything planned for early this morning, so we were able to take our usual morning walk.  The cooler temps and cloudy skies continued throughout the day.  I, for one, really miss our warm, sunny days.

The men golfers were much braver than the women--with temps in the upper 40's they still managed to play golf this morning.  John played with Gene, Lloyd, and Tim and they came in with a final score of one under par.

When John returned home, we went out for lunch in Del Rio and then stopped at HEB to pick up some fresh produce and a few other grocery items.  John B. called just as we were heading home and asked if John wanted to play more golf with him and Paul.  They made plans for John to meet up with them when we got back to the fort.

While John was gone, Rodger, Randy, and Gene arrived to cut down a tree in our yard that had died over the past summer.  Rodger has a fire pit in his backyard and needed some firewood, so he volunteered to take the tree down if he could have the wood.  John got home before they were finished and helped with cutting up the branches and clean up.  Their saws weren't sharp enough to cut through the stump that was left, so that will have to stay in place for a while.

We spent a pretty quiet evening watching some TV and working on the computer.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

We skipped our walk this morning because John and John B. had set up an 8: 30 a.m. tee time to play 18 holes of golf.  The weather was sunny, but with the temps only in the high 30's, my Tuesday morning golfing group decided to play after lunch when it was warmer.

Since my golf game was postponed, I spent some time this morning making a macaroni salad from a new recipe I found on the internet.  I needed something to take to tonight's potluck at the RV park.

In addition to playing golf this morning, John also played again after lunch with Tim and Rodger.  Today is suppose to be the best one this week weather-wise, so just about everyone who plays golf was out on the course today.

John and I got home just in time to get cleaned up, grab the salad, and head over to the RV park.  There was another large crowd this evening and many stayed to play "31".  John once again lost both his games, but I managed to win one of mine.  We got home a little earlier this evening and managed to watch some TV before calling it a day.

Monday, February 6, 2012

The weather was cloudy and cool when we took our walk this morning.  We kept seeing heavy dark clouds building up and hearing  thunder, but the storm went around us and we didn't get any rain at our place.  The sun finally broke through late this afternoon.

Following breakfast, Tim picked up John and they headed off to wood carving.  I spent the morning getting things back in place after our Super Bowl Party and baking a couple of loaves of bread.

I spent a relaxing afternoon reading more of my mystery novel while John went out to the firing range with Gene, Tom, John B. and Lloyd.  They spent an hour or so firing their pistols and getting in some target practice.

Mary Ellen had called earlier in the day inviting us over to play some cards this evening.  Before we headed over to their place, John went out to the driving range to hit some golf balls.  He has an early golf date with John B. in the morning and wanted to do some hitting with his driver.

After supper we were off to Tim and Mary Ellen's where we spent an enjoyable evening visiting and playing a game of Hand and Foot.  The men went down in defeat once again.

Sunday, February 5, 2012

We had another cloudy, chilly day with some rain, but were still able to get our walk in this morning--just had to bundle up a little and wear our winter hats and gloves.  It's suppose to be on the cooler side all this week.

It was the usual Sunday morning routine--eat breakfast, get cleaned up, and head off to Sunday School and church.  Jeanne Bevins left a message on John's cell while we were there to meet them and some other friends at Burger and Shake after the service to help celebrate Gene's birthday.

After we returned home, we got things around for the Super Bowl Party and then watched a little golf until our guests arrived.  Everyone brought some snack item to share--meatballs, deviled eggs, sausages, and I made Sloppy Joes.  Tudi also made a birthday cake for Gene.  The guys sat and watched the game while the ladies talked, played cards, and kept an eye on the score.  Even though Lois and I were the only ones happy with the final score, a fun time was had by all.

Saturday, February 4, 2012

Our summer-like weather disappeared overnight when a cold front came through our area.  The thermometer said 57 degrees when we left the house for our walk and it only warmed up three degrees by the afternoon.  The cloudy skies and strong north winds made it a good day to stay inside.

After breakfast, John and I made a quick trip to Del Rio to pick up some buns, chips, and paper plates because the Super Bowl party that was scheduled to be held outside tomorrow afternoon got moved to our house.  The weather is suppose to be even cooler tomorrow with a chance of rain.  We made a quick stop for some lunch and then headed back to the fort.

It was too cool and windy for me to golf this afternoon, so John decided to play a round by himself.  He only saw a few other people playing while he was on the course and was able to take some extra time practicing his chipping and putting.  While John was improving his golf game, I did the laundry and straightened up the house.  Now we are ready for the big game--GO GIANTS!!

Friday, February 3, 2012

Even though the skies were overcast this morning, we started out on our walk to only abandon it after about five minutes due to rain.  Fortunately, we made it back home without getting too wet.

Since outside activities were out for the morning, I did some cleaning while John went to the post office and made a stop to see Wallace I. to get some advice about how to finish the cardinal he's been carving.  He came home with a plan on how to proceed, so soon his bird will be done.

Rodger called wanting to set up a time to play some golf after lunch and a tee time of 1:30 p.m. was set.  By the time we played a couple of holes, the skies cleared off and it turned into a perfect afternoon for golfing.  As usual, we had fun a time even though we all had some pretty poor shots.

After supper, John went back out to play a few holes of golf.  I got cleaned up and went to pick up Tudi for Bingo.  We had a good time playing and visiting with our friends.  When I got home, John and I watched some basketball before calling it a night.

The morning was overcast with fog and mist when we took our walk; however, the temperature was 61 degrees so even though we got a little damp, we didn't get cold.

Stan M. called last night to tell John their cat pushed out the bottom of the screen door from the inside--the very screen that John just repaired yesterday.  Since the weather canceled our morning golf game, he decided to go fix the door.   Hopefully it is now raccoon and cat proof.

Mary Ellen stopped in to drop off some information about an adventure she has planned for next week and stayed to visit for a bit.  After lunch we watched a movie and by the time it ended, the weather had cleared off, so we decided to play some golf.  With one hole left to play, John dropped me off so I could get supper started while he finished up.  It was after 5 p.m. and he had to be ready to leave by 6 p.m. for wood carvers.

This evening I started my new mystery novel and watched a little TV till John got home.

The morning was overcast but warm enough that John was able to wear shorts for our walk.  When the clouds finally gave way to the sunshine, we had a beautiful day with temps in the low 80's.

Sam Lark had asked John if he would help today with the final  moving at his condo, so after breakfast, John walked over to Sam's and got started on packing and loading boxes.  They were done all they were going to do today by 12:30.  There are only a few little odds and ends left to move tomorrow, but John's help won't be needed.  John made himself some lunch and then went back to Metcaf's to install a door knob--that finished up what Jan had for him to do.

While John was busy helping Sam and Leta, I was off to Del Rio and my Weight Watchers meeting.  Following that, I stopped for a quick lunch and then made one final stop at the HEB for some fresh produce.  I was about 10 minutes from Fort Clark when John called and asked if I wanted to play some golf late this afternoon.  Of course, I said "Yes".

It was pretty warm on the course even though it was after 3 p.m. when we got started.  We had the whole place to ourselves and especially enjoy golfing when no one is pushing us from behind.
After our round of golf, we ate a light supper and then spent the evening watching a few of our favorite TV shows.
