The morning was once again a little on the cool side.  One good thing about that is the deer flies don't bother us while we are walking.  We can tell fall is truly on its way to northern Minnesota.  Most of the birds have left--only seem to have the hummingbirds filling up at the feeders.  It is absolutely quiet outside when we take our walk.  There are no birds singing or chirping.  The only birds we see, and occasionally hear, are the crows.  We haven't seen any geese flying south, so I guess that's a good sign.

After breakfast, John went outside to unload and stack the firewood he brought home yesterday.  He also spent some time in the shop working on a flooring strip Matt needed for the top of his stairs.  I kept busy most of the day cleaning the upstairs and changing the bed linens.

While John was working around outside, he noticed some of our neighbor's cows and bull had gotten out and were grazing in our north field.  One of the cows wandered right by the side of our house and out onto the road.  We were finally able to contact the owner and he came and rounded them up and got them back where they belonged.  He then moved them to the west pasture down the road from us until he can get the fence repaired and more strands of barbed wire back up.  The fence line runs right through our pond and with the water level so low, there was plenty of room for some of the smaller cattle to get under the fence and onto our property.

We spent the evening watching some preseason football before calling it a day.
